Genesis of Pixel Adds

Meet the Genius who ROCKED the Internet!
By: Suzi @ CTWords.com

Alex Tew the Genius from Wiltshire, England who...

...devised a million dollar idea when he launched the Million Dollar Home Page, the very first ever Pixel Add Site way  back in 2005 as a way to earn money while studying at University.

Alex's website is still Live and consists of a million pixels (Now all sold out!) arranged in a 1000 × 1000 pixel grid; the image-based links on it were sold for $1 per pixel in a minimum of 10 × 10 blocks. Pixel Block Buyers provided tiny images to be displayed in the allotted pixel block dimensions, along with a link to their URL & a slogan that appears when hovering over the link.

“The aim of the website was to sell all of the pixels in the image, thus generating a million dollars of income for the creator. The Wall Street Journal has commented that the site inspired other websites that sell pixels.” - Wikipedia

In January 2006 that aim was reached and then some.

What's a Pixel?!

A Pixel is a Picture (PIX) Element (EL) and it is the smallest item of information on a page. When arranged on a two dimensional grid pixels are usually represented by small dots or squares.

This example shows an image with a portion greatly enlarged, in which the individual pixels are rendered as little squares and can easily be seen.
